摘要: Stratospheric aerosols from large tropical explosive volcanic eruptions backscatter shortwave radiation and reduce the global mean surface temperature. Observations suggest that they also favour an El Nino within 2 years following eruption. Modelling studies have, however, so far reached no consensus on either sign or physical mechanism of response to volcanism. Here we show tends peak during year in simulations Fifth Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5). Targeted climate model further emphasize Pinatubo-like tend shorten La Ninas, lengthen Ninos induce anomalous warming when occurring neutral states. Volcanically induced cooling Africa weakens West African monsoon, resulting atmospheric Kelvin wave drives equatorial westerly wind anomalies over western Pacific. This anomaly is amplified by air-sea interactions Pacific, favouring Nino-like response.El follow after eruptions, but behind this phenomenon unclear. authors use a eruption cools Pacific response.
