摘要: (1) Pheasant broods were radio-tracked for approximately 20 days after hatching and their diet determined from faecal samples collected nocturnal roost sites during the first 12 days. (2) Broods which moved over a large range suffered heavier mortality than those remained within relatively small area. (3) preferred to forage in weedy areas, rough grass winter barley, all had high arthropod biomass. selected against woodland. (4) Carabid beetles larvae of sawfly Lepidoptera food items. Hens ate similar arthropods chicks but less quantity. (5) Variation densities home radio-tagged explained 75% variation chick survival. Chick survival was highest ingested biomass insects. (6) beetles, chrysomelid Lepidoptera, 67% between-year rate. The effects weather are difficult explain because intercorrelations with some arthropods.
