摘要: The epicardium, the outer mesothelial layer enclosing myocardium, plays key roles in heart development and regeneration. During embryogenesis it arises from proepicardium (PE), a cell cluster that appears dorsal pericardium close to venous pole of heart. Little is known about how PE emerges pericardial mesothelium. Using zebrafish model combination genetic tools, pharmacological agents quantitative vivo imaging we reveal coordinated collective movement drives formation. We found cells are apically extruded response actomyosin activity. Our results action Notch/Bmp pathways critically needed for apical extrusion cells. More generally, by comparison elimination unfit epithelia, our describe unique mechanism where viability maintained.
