摘要: To postulate an evolutionary advantage of the menopause is to address paradox how natural selection can favor cessation reproduction. do this, examined with reference four criteria: (1) its species-specificity and genetic basis; (2) history; (3) selective in context human longevity; (4) possible role evolution. A brief review literature reveals that first two criteria are satisfied. The third criterion supported by a study New England genealogies which demonstrated that, among 1,890 women born between 1675 1874, those who died postmenopausally had greater inclusive fitness than premenopausally. finding females postmenopausal longevity also fertility may represent age-independent improvement survival. theory for evolution advanced, based on observation population growth via decreased birth spacing mobile hominid groups would be enhanced presence postreproductives served as infantcarriers.
