摘要: Detailed meteorological measurements were carried out in two urban street canyons central Adelaide and at reference sites a suburban location an exposed site near the middle of city for extended period nearly year. The records revealed substantial differences between air temperature both sites. nocturnal heat island observed most cities was noted canyons, too. However, frequent occurrence daytime cool during summer, albeit much weaker than night-time phenomenon, is less expected. Both phenomena are attributed least part to increase surface area participating energy exchanges with atmosphere canyon compared typical rural site, hence effective thermal mass. presence additional mass manifested not only dampening diurnal range city, but also noticeable time lag maximum intensity island. demonstrate observable difference daily progression north–south adjacent east–west oriented street.
