摘要: Abstract Organophosphate pesticides and heavy metals are ubiquitous environmental pollutants neurotoxicants. We investigated the effects of taurine (an antioxidant; TA) on oxidative stress cognition in male Wistar rats co-treated with chlorpyrifos organophosphate pesticide; CPF) lead acetate (heavy metal; LA). The were divided into 5 groups 10 each. first two administered distilled water soya oil respectively. remaining three (TA), 50 mg/kg body weight, CPF + LA group [CPF (4.25 mg/kg, 1/20 LD50] LA (233.25 mg/kg, LD50) TA + CPF + LA [TA (50 mg/kg), CPF (4.25 mg/kg) (233.25 mg/kg)]. xenobiotics once daily by oral gavage for 16 weeks. results showed reductions activities brain antioxidant enzymes acetylcholinesterase, increased lipoperoxidation histopathological alterations cerebral cortex group. However, TA mitigated perturbations counteracted attenuated neuronal degeneration induced joint LA-induced neurotoxicity. suggested that is neuroprotective following chronic co-exposure to LA.
