摘要: Abstract Sedimentary sequences contain a detailed record of the evolution Earth's surface. Detrital mineral grains provide, for example, evidence source redox conditions, insights into age, geochemistry and petrology basement sources can also be used to elucidate tectonic environments. zircon has been as means analysing setting host sedimentary successions, but with potentially ambiguous results. It is important find additional ways discriminate depositional settings, particularly in Precambrian where other proxies are either not available or have lost. In this contribution we provide new way between different environments using rutile. We present large compilation detrital rutile data show that U-Pb age distribution sensitive basin which sediments were deposited. then apply approach two case studies, well-constrained: siliciclastic units NW Scotland deposited Neoproterozoic foreland Grenville Orogen on Cambrian passive margin Iapetus Ocean, Brazilian Sabara located within Palaeoproterozoic Minas orogen. compare distributions these showing some cases they different, most youngest metamorphic events affecting sources, reinforcing applicability tool. By testing method polyphasally-deformed successions (Sabara basin) still inform even at medium grades metamorphism.
