摘要: Since its introduction into the USA, Pseudogymnoascus destructans (Pd), fungal pathogen of white-nose syndrome, has killed millions bats. Recently, bacteria capable inhibiting growth Pd have been identified within bat microbial assemblages, leading to increased interest in elucidating bacterial assemblage-pathogen interactions. Our objectives were determine if cutaneous antifungal activity against Pd, and correlate differences microbiota with presence/absence Pd. We hypothesized that bats is enriched bacteria, skin assemblage will status. To test this, we sampled microbiota, adjacent roost surfaces soil from positive caves infer possible overlap taxa, tested these for bioactivity vitro, lastly compared assemblages using both amplicon shotgun high-throughput DNA sequencing. Results suggest presence an inconsistent influence on across sites. Operational taxonomic units (OTUs) corresponded cultured present all sample types but significantly more abundant relative environment. Additionally, negative was found OTUs taxa than bats, suggesting interaction between assemblage.
