摘要: The original concept of asthma being primarily a disease airways smooth muscle drove the development bronchodilator drugs. However when it was realised that airway inflammation underpinned disordered function, this gave way to controller therapies such as inhaled cromones and corticosteroids. More recently discovery complex interconnecting cytokine chemokine networks has stimulated biologics with varying success. With recognition wall "remodelling" is present early in inception part driven by aberrant epithelial-mesenchymal communication both genetic environmental factors beyond allergen exposure virus infection air pollution are seen increasingly important not only exacerbations but origins its evolution into different sub-phenotypes. This brings us round full circle once again considering lie defects formed elements airway; epithelium, muscle, vasculature. Over last 25 years Professor You Young Kim engaged exciting science allergy made an enormous contribution bringing Korea forefront management research, position he his colleagues can justly be proud of.
