摘要: In this in vivo study, we aimed to assess the radioprotective effect of amifostine on late normal tissue damage induced by gemcitabine concomitant with pelvic radiotherapy histopathological and quantitative methods. Fifty-six male Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into seven experimental groups as follows: (I) gemcitabine, (II) radiation + (III) amifostine, (IV) (V) sham radiation, (VI) (VII) radiation. Irradiation was given region a dose 25 Gy 5 fractions. Amifostine for 30 min; administered 24 h before first fraction radiotherapy. All animals killed at end 4th month. Pathological examination performed collagen content measured bladder rectal tissues. Fifty-one that alive follow-up period analyzed. Thirty-five (68.6%) revealed grades I-III examination. We observed grade III colitis 1 animal (radiation gemcitabine) fibrosis 4 groups). There no significant difference between any cystitis Kruskal-Wallis method. Colitis seen significantly lower group (P = 0.0005). The contents rectum markedly increased compared group. This reversed which received addition groups, but not significant. study demonstrated may have beneficial limiting from radiosensitizing gemcitabine.
