The Lyα Forest atz∼ 4: Keck HIRES Observations of Q0000−26

摘要: We derive H I column density and Doppler width distributions for a sample of Lyα clouds with 3.4 14.5 may be present. The distribution the is consistent Gaussian function mean 23 km s–1 dispersion 8 but cutoff at 15 s–1, i.e., no b < are required to describe data. While found here that derived from similar quality data lower redshifts, both value smaller than those redshift. There hint clustering in line-of-sight velocity interval 100 Δv 160 evidence only marginal. Analyses proximity effect indicate JLLν ~ 2 × 10–22 ergs cm–2 Hz–1 sr–1 intensity megagalactic UV ionizing background z 4.1, which expected high-redshift quasars.
