Facet‐based library catalogs: A survey of the landscape

摘要: This paper describes the landscape of facet-based catalogs in academic and public libraries. The purpose study is to determine describe types systems software underpinning catalogs, number nature facets use by libraries, offer preliminary observations how far library information science (LIS) legacy facet theory evident contemporary catalogs. One hundred 100 libraries were sampled those with (78 54 respectively) subject further analysis. Commercial found dominate although opensource account for almost one quarter sample. Bibliographic facets, such as language, format publication date appeared frequently across both samples – arguably speaking more ease which this metadata can be extracted than its usefulness an seeker. Though small areas convergence LIS identified, there remains considerable opportunity unite policy modern practice.
