摘要: Cognitive science today increasingly is coming under the influence of embodied, embedded, extended, and enactive perspectives, superimposed on more traditional cybernetic, computational assumptions classical cognitive research. Neuroscience has contributed to a greatly enhanced understanding brain function within constraints approach, but interpretations many its findings can be enriched by newer alternative perspectives. Here, we note in particular how these frameworks highlight requirements an animal situated environment, coevolution organism's biology ecology shape characteristics, realm extends beyond perceiving animal. We argue that insights embodied cognition paradigm reveal central role "place" plays landscape scientists philosophers alike gain from paying heed importance concept place. conclude with discussion this applied respect function, species comparisons, ecologically relevant experimental designs, "hard problem" consciousness might approached, among other implications.
