摘要: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety inhaled salmeterol 100 micrograms b.d. (SM) versus salbutamol 400 q.d.s. (SB), both via Diskhaler, when added concurrent treatment, in asthmatic patients who were not controlled on high doses steroids (> or = 1,500 beclomethasone dipropionate (BDP) equivalent daily). This a multicentre, parallel group, double-blind which 190 with forced expiratory volume one second (FEV1) peak flow rate (PEFR) 30-75% predicted 15% reversibility bronchodilator randomized treatment for 6 weeks. In SM morning PEFR increased from 281 315 L-min-1 during SB group 311 L.min-1 (p < 0.001). showed significantly better reduction diurnal variation, 39 22 than (34 37 L.min-1) There greater improvement FEV1 (from 1.63 1.85 L) 1.79 1.84 L). had more symptom-free nights 0.001), also "rescue-free" 0.04). adverse event profile similar groups. indicates that patients, high-dose steroids, improves lung function reduces asthma symptoms.
