Protective effect of gypenosides against oxidative stress in phagocytes, vascular endothelial cells and liver microsomes

摘要: The action of gypenosides (GP, saponins Gynostemma pentaphyllum, a Chinese medicinal herb) as an antioxidant was studied using various models oxidant stress in phagocytes, liver microsomes and vascular endothelial cells. results show that GP decreased superoxide anion hydrogen peroxide content human neutrophils diminished chemiluminescent oxidative burst triggered by zymosan monocytes murine macrophages. An increase lipid peroxidation induced Fe2+/cysteine, ascorbate/NADPH or cells inhibited GP. It also found protected biomembranes from injury reversing the membrane fluidity mitochondria, increasing mitochondrial enzyme activity decreasing intracellular lactate dehydrogenase leakage these extensive effect may be valuable to prevention treatment diseases such atherosclerosis, disease inflammation.
