摘要: Hypothesis: Offspring of polyembryonic parasitoid wasps (in which each egg divides clonally to produce several individuals inside a host body) adjust their numbers according the carrying capacity. Organism: The wasp, Copidosoma koehleri, parasitizes potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella. Methods: We starved parasitized larvae during wasp embryonic division phase. recorded mass and number in sub-samples dissected hosts throughout development upon pupation emergence. Results: Starvation significantly reduced larval but this was largely compensated at pupal stage, probably through delayed pupation. Starved tended harbour fewer effect marginally non-significant. Conclusions: Wasp offspring do seem response starvation, not strongly.
