摘要: Abstract Pt nanoparticles supported on carbon are an important technological catalyst. A corresponding model catalyst was prepared by physical vapor deposition (PVD) of sputtered HOPG (highly oriented pyrolytic graphite). The substrate before and after sputtering as well the Pt/HOPG system annealing were examined XPS STM. This yielded information surface density defects, which serve nucleation centres for Pt, size distribution (mean size/height) nanoparticles. Two different catalysts with mean sizes 2.0 3.6 nm, both turned out to be stable upon UHV-annealing 300 °C. After transfer into a UHV-compatible flow microreactor subsequent cleaning in UHV under mbar pressure, catalytic activity ethylene hydrogenation atmospheric pressure conditions. enabled determine temperature-dependent conversion rates, turnover frequencies (TOFs) activation energies. results obtained line characteristics Pt/C, demonstrating validity current science based approach.
