An empirical analysis of retail entrepreneurs’ approaches to prevent shoplifting

摘要: This study investigates what kinds of approaches are used by the retail entrepreneurs in order to prevent shoplifting their stores. The present utilizes elements Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) its theoretical approach. population for consisted 946 Finnish K-retail entrepreneurs. data collection was carried out an Internet survey February and March 2009. A total 161 retailers filled questionnaire, yielding a response rate 17 per cent. provides several interesting findings. First, use four means preventing shoplifting: Attractiveness Premises, Ease Surveillance, Formal Surveillance Social Control. Moreover, this revealed that be categorized according CPTED-based groups are: Retail preferring ease surveillance, formal informal social control.
