摘要: Reefs are known to provide coastal protection and important ecosystem services for many coastlines around the world. Physical processes such as wave damping, sediment transport nearshore hydrodynamics closely related provided by reefs. The steep-fronted bathymetries of reefs cause abrupt transformations damping alongshore, while reef roughness has an contribution protection. Five Latin-American case studies presented illustrate offered their damping. methodologies applied (e.g. numerical modelling, field measurements) conditions degradation scenarios roughness) listed. Considerable efforts have been made towards diagnosing, understanding modelling hydrodynamic induced Based on physical surveys, friction parameters were derived in order implement calibrated validated models. Discussion advantages disadvantages different models study cases is well needs highlighting analysis supporting appropriate ecosystem-based management.
