摘要: Largely due to technological progress coming from the Human Genome and International HapMap Projects, issue has been raised in recent years within forensic DNA typing community of potential for single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers as possible replacements currently used short tandem repeat (STR) loci. Our human identity testing project team at U.S. National Institute Standards Technology (NIST) explored numerous SNP STR loci assays well developing miniSTRs degraded samples. Based on their power discrimination, use deciphering mixture components, ability be combined multiplex order recover information low amounts biological material, we believe that STRs rather than SNPs will fulfill dominant role foreseeable future. However, may play a useful specialized applications such mitochondrial (mtDNA) testing, Y-SNPs lineage markers, ancestry informative (AIMs), prediction phenotypic traits, other niche casework applications.
