摘要: Using a multi-group cross-sectional design, we explored self-concept related to parental role salience and enactment in 53 young women (14 24 years) with knowledge they were either carriers, non-carriers, or could be carrier of fragile X syndrome (FXS). Parental included the participants’ desire “to mother” importance placed on this role. Enactment focused views regarding ways become mother (reproductive options), parenting child affected by FXS, development partner relationships (marriage). Participants completed FXS Adolescent Interview FX-Visual Analog Scale. Participants’ their genetic risk status appears have influenced both role, effect varied based status. For many, led reappraisal, redefinition, re-engagement goal becoming parent. This process was prominent those who carriers less so at-risk, it did not typically occur non-carriers. Findings offer valuable insight into impact information developing perceptions new directions for counseling adolescents family history FXS.
