摘要: Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is a commensal microorganism of the human nasopharynx, and yet also an opportunistic pathogen upper lower respiratory tracts. Host microenvironments influence gene expression patterns, likely critical for NTHi persistence. The host sequesters iron as mechanism to control microbial growth, limitation influences subsequent production proteins involved in homeostasis. Careful regulation uptake, via ferric uptake regulator Fur, essential multiple bacteria, including NTHi. We hypothesized therefore that Fur contributes homeostasis NTHi, bacterial persistence, regulates virulence factors. Toward this end, fur was deleted prototypic clinical isolate, 86-028NP, we assessed regulated by Fur. As expected, majority genes encode with predicted roles utilization repressed However, 14 Fur-regulated no known function, may contribute or other biological functions. In mammalian model otitis media, determined indicating important role Fur-mediated disease progression. These data provide profile identify additional regulatory pathways utilization. Identification such will increase our understanding how can persist within microenvironments, common and, importantly, significant impact.
