摘要: Host diet influences the diversity and metabolic activities of gut microbiome. Previous studies have shown that microbiome provides a wide array enzymes enable processing diverse dietary components. Because primary porcupine, Erethizon dorsatum, is lignified plant material, we reasoned porcupine would be replete with required to degrade lignocellulose. Here, report on bacterial composition in using 16S rRNA sequencing bioinformatics analysis. We extended this analysis microbiomes 20 additional mammals located Shubenacadie Wildlife Park (Nova Scotia, Canada), enabling comparison amongst three mammalian taxonomic orders (Rodentia, Carnivora, Artiodactyla). was validated metagenomic shotgun selected herbivores (porcupine, beaver) carnivores (coyote, Arctic wolf). In microbiome, functionality more conserved than composition, thus mined data sets identify microbial functions across species each order. measured relative gene abundances for cellobiose phosphorylase, endoglucanase, beta-glucosidase evaluate cellulose-degrading potential select mammals. The beaver had higher proportions genes encoding Artic wolf coyote. These findings provide further evidence capacity are influenced by host diet.
