摘要: Nonstructural carbohydrates in cereals have been widely investigated from physiological, genetic, and breeding perspectives. may contribute to grain filling, but correlations with yield are inconsistent sometimes negative. Here we ask if there hidden functions of nonstructural carbohydrates, advance an ecological dimension this question, speculate that high concentration challenge the osmotic homeostasis aphids, thus providing a working hypothesis connects aphid resistance cereals. In light proposition, amount should be regarded as functionally different traits, relevant carbon economy crop playing role. We conclude suggestions for experiments test our hypothesis.
