摘要: Identification of polluters and the allocation contaminant sources are key tasks when evaluating complex subsurface contamination with multiple overlapping plumes, as frequently found in industrial areas. Under certain conditions, compound-specific stable isotope analysis (CSIA) may provide decisive information such environmental litigation studies. Here, we present an illustrative case study highlighting potential limitations using δ13C values halogenated hydrocarbons (tetrachloroethene its transformation products) a tracer for discriminating different sources, even presence biodegradation hydrogeology. A multiple-line-of-evidence approach, including evaluation historical, hydrological, geochemical, isotopic data well statistical analysis, was applied to unravel scenario at site. factor coverage wide area plumes highly precise chlorinated ethe...
