摘要: We report observation of resonance in a ring waveguide 4 cm diameter fabricated by ion exchange glass. The observed finesse four was explained terms loss per unit length and coupling efficiency onto off the ring. A large nonresonant background attributed to mode-mixing multimode an depolarization. ability measure due fact that only highest order mode directionally coupled out. Estimates predict finesses better than 20 making possible measurement frequency deviations 10-4A, temperature variations 0.002°C. With improvements, this may also be viable device for inertial rotation sensing.
