摘要: Background: Down syndrome (DS) is the leading cause of intellectual disability (ID). Although there is currently no drug approved to improve cognitive performance in this population, new pharmacological molecules have been synthetized in the last years [1]. People with ID usually have difficulties understanding and communicating abstract concepts such as symptoms, so their participation in clinical trials requires a special drug safety assessment [2]. Some instruments have been developed to report pain but not other symptoms have been studied [3]. People with DS are able to recognize pictograms to indicate the quality of pain and pictograms have been used to assess adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in other populations [4][5].
