摘要: Letting go of objectives provides a psychological challenge because without them it might seem that we are left drifting without guideposts. This culminating chapter argues against the false security of objectives by celebrating the alternative pathways to achievement that are more effective than objectives. In particular, it offers lessons in how to inform how you live your own life by the myth of the objective. Rather than guiding your life by overarching objectives, great achievements and great happiness may be better reached through riding the winds of serendipity and following your nose towards what you find most interesting. Strangely, to do something great may require letting go of what that exact great something is. But the empowering message is that it’s okay to not know where exactly you’re heading, and that by abandoning objectives you may more likely encounter treasures, whatever they may be.
