Monitoring of Leaks and Water Quality in Water Pipeline Systems Using Distributed Sensor Networks

摘要: The loss of water during distribution from reservoir to users is significant. Generally, the loss is caused by the pressure that exists in pipeline networks. When the pipes’ ability in holding the pressure degrades, then the leaks might occur. This need to be overcome in order to minimize the cost of the water leaks worth millions of dollars each year. On the other hand, the issue of water quality measurement is crucial to assure that the water is safe to use. This measurement needs to be performed in a real time fashion to help the authorised parties in taking any actions needed should an incident take place. Thus, should there be substances contained in the water that are dangerous for users, an early warning can be obtained and the risk of users being impacted can be minimized.
