摘要: Examination of the leader region of Pr-A strain Rous sarcoma virus (RSV) RNA revealed that it exhibits a number of unusual features that are not common to most eucaryotic cellular messenger RNAs (mRNA). These features include a greater potential to form secondary structure and the occurrence of the reading frame of primary gene product downstream of three short open reading frames (SORFs). The secondary structure of the Pr-A leader was mapped, utilizing a somewhat novel approach which involved the isolation and examination of plus sense single stranded DNA fragments. This approach proved quite applicable as single stranded plus sense DNA was found to behave much like homologous single stranded RNA in solution.
