摘要: In search for a fuel that can serve as an alternative to fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the renewable nature of biomass fuels (wood based, agricultural byproducts, urban green waste) places it among the attractive options. However, the alkali (K and Na) behaviour in biomass fuels is of major concern for its use in power generation. Unlike coal, in biomass combustion most of the alkali matter evaporates from the fuel and forms alkali sulphates and chlorides based on availability of sulphur and chlorine. Alkali matter in the form of alkali sulphates and chlorides causes deposits in the heat transfer part of the boiler and forms sub-micron ash that can cause environmental problems.
