摘要: The Brazilian Cerrado (woodland savanna) is one of the oldest vegetation types in South America and also one of the most diverse ecosystems on Earth. Except for some tropical forest localities, the richness of vascular plants observed on the Cerrado exceeds that found in most vegetation types of the globe. The level of endemism is also expressive for some taxonomic groups, with values reaching up to 80% of endemic species for herbaceous plants. Biogeographic patterns are generally congruent for plants, reptiles and mammals in the Cerrado, when large scale maps are considered. Smaller scale centers of endemism can also be observed in the domain, with more limited levels of concordance, among taxonomic groups. Areas like the Espinhaço Mountain chain, Chapada dos Veadeiros, Paranã basin and Araguaia basin are some examples of centers of endemism. The scientific knowledge on the Cerrado …
