摘要: In a rapidly evolving world marked by intricate social, environmental, and technological challenges, engineering education must transcend technical proficiency to cultivate ethical awareness and social responsibility in future engineers. This paper examines the pivotal role that Humanitarian Engineering programs play in developing ethical consciousness and a commitment to social impact within engineering education. By integrating principles of ethics, cultural sensitivity, and community engagement, these programs equip students with the essential tools to navigate complex ethical landscapes and design solutions that prioritise the well-being of diverse communities. Through a comprehensive analysis of the intersections between humanitarian engineering and ethical education, this paper underscores the transformative potential of educational initiatives that bridge technical excellence with ethical considerations. By delving into curriculum design, pedagogical strategies, and practical outcomes, this paper sheds light on how humanitarian engineering programs contribute to the emergence of engineers who are not only proficient problem solvers but also compassionate global citizens. The paper also advocates for a re-evaluation and expansion of the conventional definition of humanitarian engineering, encompassing a broader scope that includes immediate crises and disadvantaged communities while also acknowledging engineering's proactive role in addressing interconnected global issues and embracing ethical and social responsibilities.
