Mitigating Risks and Exploiting Opportunities for Networked Power Devices

摘要: Abstract Devices that support Energy Management Systems (EMSs) are becoming increasingly computerized and networked. This trend creates both risks and opportunities. Networking and complexity increase the attack surface of the devices, but these changes also hold opportunities for increased convenience and robustness and for new types of applications exploiting the EMS infrastructure. In this paper we argue for developing EMS devices that can be connected to the Internet and provide finegrained security on their own rather than relying on protection from physically isolated control networks or network perimeter devices.
