摘要: In European cities, entrepreneurs from increasingly diverse backgrounds have set up businesses and introduced new products and services. This diversification of businesses reflects the changing demographics in contemporary urban economies. Urban diversity has been hailed as a potential source of economic growth. The literature emphasises that cities open to diversity are able to attract a wider range of entrepreneurs than those that are relatively closed (Eraydin, Taşan-Kok, & Vranken, 2010; Fainstein, 2005; Florida, 2002; Taşan-Kok & Vranken, 2008). Empirical research on how economic growth is connected to urban diversity, however, is quite limited and provides evidence usually only at macro level with little attention to the local contexts and their significance for entrepreneurs.
