Experimental and numerical studies of blood flow in carotide arteries affected by stenosis

摘要: The paper presents experimental visualizations and numerical simulations of vortical structures in a 3D carotid artery bifurcation at Re= 330 and Re= 900. The studies are focused to the biofluids applications, in relation to the influences induced on the flow structure within the vessels by the presence of stenosis and stented geometries. The results evidenced the changes in the flow pattern due to modified geometries. Newtonian fluid and Carreau model (corresponding to blood viscosity) are used in numerical investigations performed with commercial FLUENT code and for the 3D reconstruction of the carotid artery Inventor 11 had been used.
