Growth and characterization of N, N'-dioctadecyl-1, 7-dibromo-3, 4, 9, 10-perylenetetracarboxylic-diimide micron/nano wires for organic field effect transistors

摘要: In this paper we report the growth and characterization of micron/nano sized semiconducting organic N, N'-dioctadecyl-1,7-dibromo-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic diimide (DODB-PTCDI) wires in three solvents: ethanol, methanol and tetrahydrofuran (THF). The morphology, optical and electrochemical properties of the samples characterized by SEM, FESEM, polarized optical microscopes, UV-visible, photoluminescence spectroscopy and cyclic voltametry (CV). All samples showed intense fluorescence color of orange red, with birefringence under polarized crossed wires. The SEM and optical microscopy images revealed that the aligned crystallites were wire type structures of width and lengthin the range of 1-2 μm and 30-100 μm in THF, 100-200 nm and 2-5 μm in ethanol and methanol respectively. These semiconducting organic wires can be used to fabricate n-type organic field-effect transistors (OFETs).
