摘要: Introduction Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a heterogeneous disease both in terms of underlying mechanisms and resulting consequences. Intermittent hypoxemia can increase both sympathetic nerve activity and loop gain (“ventilatory instability”), thus loop gain may predict increased cardiovascular risk. Therefore, we hypothesized that hypoxic burden and loop gain are associated with worse endothelial function (a predictor and likely mediator of worse cardiovascular outcomes). Methods The ongoing, prospective ExPRESSION trial (NCT04875364) has been designed to assess whether Endotypes Predict Response and Sequelae In OSA Patients. As part of this trial, 200 adults with OSA will undergo an overnight polysomnography followed by endothelial function testing via EndoPAT (Itamar) in the morning.
