The preparation of 11 C-carboxylic labelled L-methionine for measuring protein synthesis rates

摘要: [en] L-[S-methyl-11 C] methionine has been used to estimate the protein synthesis rate in brain. By using carboxylic labelled methionine, potential problems with the transmethylation pathway would be circumvented. Furthermore by comparing PET studies with either methyl or carboxylic labelled 11 CL-methionine, it might be possible to differentiate between protein synthesis and transmethylation pathways. We prepared DL-[1-11 C]-methionine and separated the labelled amino acid in its enantiomers.(author)
