PurposeThe purpose of this Special Report is to provide science-policy makers and science-funding program managers with evidence-based recommendations to help address a critical national problem: crumbling, inadequate, and outmoded infrastructure. The report provides recommendations (see Figure 1 and p4-6) that would help the scientific enterprise make and exchange knowledge in ways that are more likely to support societal needs.
