摘要: This study examines the dynamically evolving policy framework relevant to plastics management in India, with the intention of supporting transition to a circular economy for plastics in the country. Our analysis draws upon Dovers and Hussey’s (2013) framework for environmental policy design in order to characterise the policy instruments in use and the effectiveness of their design with reference to the aims of a circular economy. We adopted a value chain approach in the characterisation of key policies relevant to plastics and the circular economy in India, in order to map the plastic value chain stages most closely addressed by current policy, as well as to identify opportunities for future policy direction. Lastly, in the absence of an overarching CE policy and action plan for India, we applied the circular economy strategies framework by Kirchherr et al.(2017) to identify the circular economy potential and actions supported by India’s policy framework.
