摘要: Landslides are key drivers of landscape evolution and mass redistribution in mountain ranges. The degree to which landsliding unloads the crust depends on the efficiency of the fluvial network in transporting landslide-mobilized sediment, which is an ongoing topic of debate. Typhoon Morakot, in 2009, was the wettest typhoon on record in Taiwan, resulting in> 2.5 m of rainfall and nearly 20,000 landslides in its immediate aftermath. Here, we analyze water discharge and suspended sediment concentrations measurements at rivers across Taiwan to estimate the influence of Typhoon Morakot on fluvial sediment rating curves and sediment discharge. We show a noticeable increase in rating curves on the Southeast of Taiwan in the 3-6 years following Morakot relative to the years prior to Morakot, corresponding to a significant increase in annual sediment discharge in some areas, consistent with previous studies.
