摘要: Dutch traffic accident figures illustrate the positive impact of an innovative approach to traffic safety since the early 1990s, more recently renewed in a program “Advancing Sustainable Safety”. One of the cornerstones of the program is speed reduction and to achieve this different infrastructural measures were applied. In general safety figures as well as in specific cases these measures proved to be effective. This paper presents the experiences from four case studies in the Netherlands. It shows that the implementation of traffic safety programs faced some hiccups. The study shows the importance of taking into account the whole road network in a wider area; to involve local actors from the beginning of the project; and to understand that the people involved can have very different views about traffic problems, solutions and possible measures.
