摘要: Small indigenous fishes (SIF) grow to maximum size of 25-30 cm in mature or adult stage of their life cycle and are commonly found in low-lying areas such as wetlands, lowland areas, beels, paddy fields etc. SIF contributes significantly to food and income security of the rural population through its wild capture. So far, very less importance has been given to its culture potential, nutrition, processing and captive breeding even though it has a good market price and demand and is rich in protein vitamins and other essential micronutrients. Therefore, to harness its potential it could be integrated with the paddy cultivation in areas of Sundarbans where the land shaping techniques developed by ICAR-CSSRI, RRS, Canning Town has been adopted.
