Child rights as a basis for the regulation of food marketing: the role of the UN convention on the rights of the child

摘要: This chapter analyses the extent to which the rights to health and food under the crc can guide the restriction of marketing of high fat, salt or sugar (hfss) foods to children. hfss food marketing is considered problematic as it is a contributory factor to increasingly high levels of obesity in Europe and beyond. Recent advances in digital technology raise new challenges, calling for an innovative approach, with experiences in the eu, including the uk and Sweden, highlighting the complexity of regulation. The author analyses the approach of the crc Committee, the Special Rapporteurs on the Right to Food and Health, the who and civil society with a view to establishing a ‘child rights’ approach to hfss marketing.
