摘要: In the 1950s and 1960s, nuclear energy was presented as a very cheap and abundantly available form of electricity production, and was even considered by some as ‘a magical panacea’for solving certain social problems (Johnston, 2018, p. 637, citing the nuclear physicist Alvin Weinberg). The military history and applications of nuclear technology led to anti-nuclear protests in the 1960s. However, it was especially after the nuclear accidents at Three Mile Island (1979) and Chernobyl (1986) that public attitudes towards nuclear started to change drastically due to concerns related to the safety of nuclear installations, radioactive waste management, and a lack of trust in nuclear governance (Whitfield et al., 2009).
