摘要: Envelope-function calculations of electronic states in semiconductor heterojunctions, quantum wells, and superlattices are reviewed. The emphasis is on states derived from coupled bulk bands, like the degenerate valence band top. Landau levels in a perpendicular magnetic field are also calculated, so that a direct comparison with intra- and interband magneto-optical experiments is also possible. Experiments provide support to the theoretical picture resulting from the envelope-function approximation.
