摘要: This chapter talks about map projections and their effects on map accuracy. It explains data quality standards and describes the sources of uncertainty in spatial data. This is followed by a discussion on the role of resolution and scales on data quality. Sources of errors and uncertainty in data are explained. The chapter highlights that an understanding of datums, map projections, and coordinate systems is the first step toward minimizing uncertainties in GIS-based data analysis. Even when the appropriate projections are chosen, there could be errors in datasets arising from a variety of other sources, including image preprocessing, format conversion, data reduction, interpolation, and interpretation.
