Gendering higher education expansion: explaining the growth in women's university enrollment rates in Britain, France, Germany, and Italy during the twentieth century

摘要: Women's participation in higher education has increased substantially in the last few decades. Indeed, in many Western European countries women now occupy nearly fifty percent of university seats. Yet, sociologists have paid but limited attention to this increasing participation and the macro level mechanisms driving this growth.
