Religion and Multicultural Prisons: A Brief Review of lssues

摘要: One of the most interesting, yet potentially controversial, aspects of multicultural societies is religious diversity, Whereas different ideas of worship have the ability of creating strong emotions in society at large, they have the potential to be magnified in correctional institutions such as prisons and jails, Correctional facilities have to balance inmates' rights of religious freedom of expression with institutional security. We review in this paper issues correctional administrators must confront and discuss legal rights and restrictions, institutional security, religious volunteers in prisons, and nature and extent of religious services.
